Probe of the Month - Newly Designed Force Sensor with Free Lesson Plan Download

The new Force sensor featured in this month's newsletter is a very popular dual range probe, capable of measuring both pushing and pulling forces. The two ranges are ±10N or ±50N. The sensor can easily be mounted on a ring stand or dynamics cart, or used instead of a hand-held spring scale. We've improved the probe's design by moving the switch button, which adjusts the range, to a more user-friendly location.

Typical experiments for the Force sensor in Physics include: Hook's Law, Frictional Forces, Force on a Dynamic Car, Simple Harmonic Motion and also Force and Impulse during Collision. This month we're offering a free download of an experiment with Newton's Third Law - for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Teacher Query of the Month - Why does Fourier not offer USB Sensors?

Fourier does not offer USB sensors for several reasons. First and most importantly, USB technology actually limits the range of functionality of the sensor due to limitations in bandwidth available to USB ports. Also of great importance is the fact that USB sensors are more expensive due to the need to add include a USB driver in each sensor that will allow it work in a USB port. Finally, using a USB sensor in a computer limits the teachers and teachers in creating a mobile classroom and moving the classroom outdoors.
