This month's newsletter is a truly global edition - we explore how the Nova5000 can be the perfect solution for schools across Africa, by examining the Ghana Education model and how the Nova5000 is being used as part of the EU sponsored Socrates project for Remote Engineering Masters. Some great new Nova5000 applications will be presented: Nova5000 and the Leonardo new generation wireless interface as wekk as Active Directory. We're also announcing new curriculum books, including the new Physics book for the Nova5000 with three experiments available for download right now.
In 2006 an unprecedented number of students across Ghana enrolled for primary school as a direct result of the removal of school fees in 2005. From the first through to ninth grades there was a 16.6% increase in enrollment. This is part of Ghana's undertaking to bring education to a much greater section of the population and to encourage school attendance. This is in line with United Nations Millennium Development Goals to provide universal primary education by 2015.
EU Socrates Project Leverages Nova5000 for Remote Engineering Masters Program
The Nova5000 benefits are universal, however across the globe educators are constantly coming up with innovative ways of leveraging the technology in their classrooms. We spoke to Dr. Doru Ursutiu, from the University Transylvania Brasov, Romania. Dr. Ursutiu is a professor in the Physics Department and Executive Manager of the Center for Valorization and Transfer of Competences CVTC. Professor Ursutiu has taught in the field of educational technologies for more than 15 years, teaching electronics, sensors, data acquisitions and graphical programming.
Integrating Nova5000 with the Leonardo new generation wireless interface
Once again the breadth of compatibility of the Nova5000 is increased to bundle with K'nex products fully functioning replicas of machines and structures and provides a complete solution now for the technology studies market too. I.T.P., developers and exporters of Hi Tech integral solutions to education markets in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, is a valued Fourier Systems distributor. They have combined the Nova5000 with the M.C.T., a comprehensive learning environment that is intended to enhance the learning and teaching of Math, Science and Technology in a social context. Now the Nova5000 can be connected to the Leonardo Interface, a new generation of wireless interface, that has been designed specifically for education needs. As a fully wireless communication of direct command and feedback control the sphere of student experiment operation is vastly increased. Data can be monitored from any sensor and K'nex products can be controlled while programming the TechnoLogica-Leonardo software that is installed on the Nova5000. For the distributor this opens up new potential markets and for the consumer it becomes a truly cost effective solution for schools who have invested in existing technology or wish to make future purchases as they could bundle the Nova5000 with the K'nex product, and provide a complete solution also for the technology studies market.
Fourier has recently developed a new Physics curriculum book for the Nova5000
Chemistry and Biology will be coming in the next few weeks. You can view some sample experiments on our Teachers' Forum, Experiment Activities page at http://www.fourier-sys.com/teachers_60.html. For translation purposes the books will be available in word format from the Distributor Download Center. Please note that when printing locally all books should have the Fourier Systems Ltd. copyright and should display the Fourier Systems Ltd. logo. For any further information please contact Tamar Antokol VP Marketing Worldwide.
The Nova5000 has integrated support for Active Directory services
This functionality allows single sign-on for user access to network resources. For example, a student can login to the school network from their Nova5000 using their own student account details (username and password) and can then safely logoff. This will prevent other users of this Nova5000 unit to login freely to the network and therefore provides added network security. The screenshot here shows the Log On option in the Start menu, from where the user may login to the network.
